Most small to medium organisations have staff with enough IT knowledge to cope with the day-to-day running of their PCs and networks, but for most it is not economical to employ permanent staff who can carry out every task necessary to maintain an effective network. Occasionally problems will occur that are beyond the experience of the company's in-house staff. Some companies solve this by out-sourcing their entire IT function. Although this can seem attractive, it does not leverage the IT experience of existing staff, since the out-sourcing company will usually take over full control of the network.
